Happy Boxing Day!
Dec. 26th, 2008 03:23 pmMmmm, Christmas. I had a lovely one, with relatives coming from FL, NY, and DC to spend it with us. <3 And it's not over yet, either. In my family it's become something of a three-day affair. Christmas Eve is always lasagna night, as it's the only time of year my grandmother will make it. It also involves giving some gifts and playing find-the-pickle (which, iirc, is an AWESOME German tradition in which a pickle is hidden in the tree and whoever finds it gets a prize. We use a pickle ornament, as I think I real pickle would make the tree all vinegary, but it's still awesome. It's a sparkly pickle.)
Then of course there's Christmas Day. It was a very Doctor Who Christmas for me. <3 I'm now in possession of all the Torchwood and new-series Doctor Who seasons to-date, which makes me a happy Ru. I'm gonna plunk myself down in front of the TV with my Dalek knitting and watch Donna awesomeness until it comes out my ears. <3 I also got a Doctor Who novel and an adorable "Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey" pin from my brother. Also included was some delicious new yarn, and a knitting book to go with it (and since it's called "Yarn Cocktails", it includes ways to have a knitting cocktail party, which I so want to do now. XD). From Eien-chan I got an xkcd "Stand back: I'm going to try SCIENCE!" shirt and to go with it, the Thomas Dolby CD with "She Blinded Me with Science". XD And! I got Lushy goodness and an adorable crocheted fortune cookie from Angie and Sage, which is going to join the star jar from Sushi and Edmund the Octopus on my desk at school. I think I'm on some sort of unconscious quest to have the most unique desk in the department. XD;
Christmas Day also involved more family hilarity, the pinnacle of which is the annual Screw Your Neighbor game, in which I got regularly screwed by my relatives, who kept stealing gift certificates from me (though the only one that really heartbroke me was when my cousin stole a B&N gift certificate from me via his fiancee. Talk about getting ganged up on. XD) I like to think I had the last laugh, though, as I got a Victoria's Secret gift certificate, which was the first time I ever actually actively went after one, much to the aghastment (is that even a word?) of my parents (especially my mother, who wanted it. XD). Hey, they have cute loungewear!
So that was hilarious amounts of good fun. And now tonight we have the annual Battle of the Sexes Trivial Pursuit game, which is always awesome. There's lots of smack-talking before and during the game, with bragging rights for the next year on the line. XD I love my family. <3 <3 <3
