Avocadoumentary--Part 2: We get leaf!
Nov. 18th, 2006 09:15 pmIf I suddenly drop off the face of the planet, it's because the avocado has eaten me. In a week, it's doubled in size. At this rate, in a few months it'll be growing teeth and asking to be fed.

Holy crap, talk about ambition. I've seen herbaceous seedlings grow insane-quick, but never expected something that'll ultimately be woody grow this fast. Right now, it's at about six and a half inches. Not only is it growing fast, but it's still reacing quickly when I rotate it. Maybe it just likes to move? Who knows--maybe I have the Fred Astaire of plants growing on my windowsill!
For right now, though, I'm just happy that it's getting some actual leaves. Took it long enough, considering there are some leaf buds much further down. I'm a little concerned that it's sun-starved and it's putting all of its energy into growing stem rather than leaves. I did some more poking around, and supposedly you're supposed to give it its first trim at a foot tall to coax it to put out more leaves. We'll see when we get to that point. It does look like that the nodes are a lot closer together at the apex, so maybe it'll slow down a bit now.
Extreme close-up! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
