Avocadocumentary--Week 13
Feb. 4th, 2007 07:06 pmOnly one picture of Avobaby this week, as there isn't too much to report on its end. However, there is a new development.

Avobaby seems unusually perky in this picture. I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it's because it's pleased with how its new leaves are coming. Maybe it's because it had been watered the day before.
Or maybe it's it's indulging in teenage schadenfreude over the fact that I've lost my mind.

Yes, I've started a new avocado. I originally wasn't going to--getting Avobaby going was hard enough, and I've got *way* too many plants to start a new one. But then I opened up my most recent avocado and was greeted with this unusual little fella. It's much smaller than the other avocado pits I've tried doing (including Avobaby), and much more elliptical than ovate. This was just much too intriguing for me, so I had to at least *try* to get it to grow.

The mystery surrounding this avocado pit increased when I skinned it. It has some sort of funny little knob thing on top, and appears to be covered in a smattering of orange spots. I'm not quite sure if this is due to a virus, or if I have some sort of strange mutant on my hands, but I want to try to grow it up, in case it happens to develop orange-spotted leaves, or something.
I probably won't take pictures again until(hopefully) it starts doing something, as it'll probably be several weeks hence before we see anything happen. Otherwise, the reports would be something along the lines of "WELL, IT'S STILL SITTING THERE. HASN'T DONE ANYTHING.". Assuming it grows, though, it's going to need a name. I'm thinking of calling it Hal. I'm not sure why. It certainly doesn't show any resemblance to a comedian or a murderous computer. I guess it just looks like a Hal.
Hopefully the name won't scar it into doing something disagreeable, like not letting me into the house. "Open the front door, Hal!" "I'm sorry, Ru. I can't do that."

Date: 2007-02-06 02:58 am (UTC)One of my avocado pits has started sending out a root. I'm so pleased. Just a little more and it can be transferred to dirt.
My other pit was strange like that, too. Almond-shaped, and small, and when I skinned it, it was red like a dyed pistachio. It also had three sections instead of two. Most puzzling. :|
