Dr. Rustone, I presume?
Aug. 20th, 2005 09:01 pmWow, when I woke up today, I didn't expect it to be such an adventurous day. Well, it was definitely getting a touch of an African expedition by the end, in any case.
I took a big leap forward today in the realm of driving, as I ended up driving in a place that I had been dreading driving on for a while--the interstate. I was SCARED TO DEATH. Careening down a stretch of highway at 60 miles an hour with cars and buses and trucks all around me is not my idea of fun. But, I didn't end up crashing the car in a catastrophic firey ball of doom and destruction, so I guess it could've been worse. I did try to drive my mom and I to Virginia tho. So I guess I need more practice. ^_^;
While shopping for things like a magnifying glass for plant systematics, I saw something that made me think of![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
neherenia--lip gloss in both cherry and watermelon flavors, with prancing unicorns on the wrappers. Now that's what I call awesome lip gloss. <3 <3
Finally, the last item of the day involved one Dr. Rustone, leader of a survey team exploring vast tracts of central NC jungles in search of strange and mysterious plants. Suited up in high-tech anti tick and anti poison ivy equipment(Jeans, long shirt, long socks, rubber bands around ankles, hat, gloves, bug spray), the survey team, consisting of the legendary Dr. Rustone and her father, hacked through underbrush and battled insects of various types and sizes, searching for plants that could potentially be collected as herbarium samples. Only a few plants appeared to be suitable(i.e. bearing flowers or fruits), which was to be expected, due to the season, and included some wild strawberries, crabgrass, a peculiar vine, and some interesting plants that were putting up stalks of purple flowers. A second expedition is planned to collect said plants. After taking a sufficient survey, the team trekked back to home base for showers and anti poison ivy wash all around. All in all, a fruitful expedition.
