So, today I was going to head out to a state park in the mountains to look for a particular species of Dichanthelium that grows in the uplands--an unusual thing, particularly in the group I'm looking in, which are almost all found in low, swampy areas.

Unfortunately, there were predictions of thunderstorms today all over the western part of the state, including where I was going. Combine that with massive humidity, pressure-change-induced sinus headaches, and a desire to have at least one day this weekend where I'm not going great guns, and you have a Ru who isn't enthused with the idea of driving 2.5 hours to tramp around the side of a mountain. So I didn't go. I'm guilt-tripping about it, though, as the species is one I really need to get, and the next time I'll be able to get out there is the week after next, and as I've mentioned, they're changing forms, and THE GRASS WAITS FOR NO ONE.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I was keen on the idea of potentially being on the side of a mountain by myself when a thunderstorm rolls in. I was seeing my gravestone: "Here Lies Ru--Struck by lightning on the side of a mountain while looking for grass." Not very dignified. If it was just going to be showering, I would've gone. If there was someone going with me, I would've gone. But because neither of those two things were happening, I felt it would be better to err on the side of caution and go do errand-type things for the north trip instead. I also got sparkly rainbow unicorn underroos. They are cute.

Still. Does this make me not quite a hardcore botanist, because I was too much of a fraidy cat in the face of only potential thunderstormyness? Hn.

first - what you are doing sounds SO cool to me!! you need to explain in great detail with pictures so that i fully understand. the trips you've been taking also make me jealous....of course, i do love driving (hence the 8 hr drive to maryland i did last weekend).

second - thunderstorms in the US are really hard! especially on mountains! poor visibility!!! so, i'd say i'd prefer a live ru over a burny ru with grass!

third - SPARKLY UNICORN UNDEROOS!?!?!?! WWWAAAAAANNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTTT!!! where did you get them from?? and how much do i SO want them?!
