DressQuest
Aug. 15th, 2009 12:45 amOne of my cousins is getting married in October. We recently got the invitation, which said "Black tie optional". Uncertain what that entails for those of us of the female persuasion, we polled some folks to get a feel for what that might entail. From the sounds of it, we're basically looking at cocktail dresses and similar.
Since I don't really own something like that, I'm going to have to go SHOPPING. I'm bizarrely excited by this prospect. I don't consider myself a clothes hound, but for some reason this seems to me to be a fun mission to undertake. I guess because in my mind, it's much more formal than what I'm used to, and it subsequently conjures up old memories of staring up in awe at the formal gowns, fingering the fabric, imagining what it would be like to wear one, when I went with Mum to the department stores as only a wee Ru. I'm not going for one of the gowns, as that'd probably be WAY too formal, but the sentiment is still there. And still. Pretty dresses!
I'm starting early, which I think will be helpful, particularly in instances where 1.) I don't find something I like right away. 2.) I find something I LOVE, but it's $200, so I have to wait for it to move to the sale rack (luckily, I have Mum at my side, and she's a master at these bargain moves--she's been known to get a $200 suit for $40. I think she sacrifices shoes to the clothing gods to ensure a good hunt, or something). More on this as it develops!
