So yes, yesterday was the combination wedding/birthday day. Talk about having a whirl of a day. I think it directly correlated to the fact that I had a whopper of a headache today.

Anyway, since we were helping out with preparations and things, we had to be there an hour and a half early. After appointing our car the official flower vehicle, we drove our way to where the wedding was being held. Since we were there the other day to help set up and decorate the place, we were charged with letting our relatives follow us to where it was being held. No one counted though on my dad missing the turn. Even so, everyone managed to get there okay, but as we were unloading the flowers, my uncle, known for his rather dry sense of humor, drives up to us and mutters as he passes by, "Way to go, Magellan." After this quip, mom and I proceeded to howl with laughter all the way to the front doors. ^_^;

Anyway, once we got in there, we proceeded to distribute bouquets, boutineers, and corsages, which turned out to be a bit of a challenge, since we didn't know half the people on the list. It mainly involved being on the lookout for people in tuxes and occasionally running up to a person and going "Excuse me, are you so and so?". I'm also starting to come to the conclusion that pinning a boutineer is a skill innate in women(especially since I've never done it before, and managed to successfully do it three times), but is impossible for men to do. Thoughts on this theory?

The wedding and reception themselves were very pretty, with red/ivory color scheme going on. My cousin apparently designed how things were going to look, and dang, she did a really nice job of it. I also learned a new floral trick: Apparently sticking cellophane into a vase and filling it with water makes the vase take on a very convincing crystal effect, which dressed up the vases a hundred times over. The ceremony itself was nice, but I thought the minister was a bit...full of himself. Also, maybe this is just me, but doesn't the whole 'traditional' bridal march and retreat music sound more like impending doom rather than joyful optimism? I dunno.

And of course, the reception was the big thing of the day. Somehow, I ended up being the official soda-getter, as I frequently found myself going up to the bar for sodas for people like my dad and uncle(who had been put on photography detail, and were furiously getting formal pictures while everyone was milling in the reception area. Apparently my dad's eye for wedding photos has come from going to wedding upon wedding upon wedding in his lifetime. Did I mention we have a big family?) and for my cousin. But actually, that was kinda fun, even if the guy behind the bar became very familiar with me.

I ended up getting the shock of my life though when my dad, who had taken a break from his photography duties, grabbed my wrist and proceeded to pull me to the dance floor. I should point out that in my waking memory I have *never* seen my dad dance, so this was quite a new experience. Just when I think I understand him, he pulls a twist like this.

The cake was pretty awesome too. She apparently had the caterers do a typical wedding cake, but had them put the cake layers on pillars, and then had the space inbetween stuffed with red and white roses. As the bakers were disassembling the cake so it could be cut, they placed a rose on each plate. As you can well imagine, some of the smaller girls were running around with bouquets of roses in their hands and some of the women(including yours truly, I must admit) were wearing roses in their hair.

After the reception was packed up and we went home(along with several bouquets of decorative roses that are now decorating the house), my dad and my uncle downloaded the digital photos they took and we proceeded to have a slide show of the raw footage. My cousin and her new husband stopped by before going on their honeymoon, so of course we had to regale them with the candid photos that were taken where people were making the worst faces. There was one particularly funny one we all enjoyed that involved my cousin and her groom during their first dance where they were being a bit silly. My uncle had managed to catch them with this funny look on their face with both of them looking up at what must have been about to fall on them, judging by the looks on their faces. XD

My uncle had an interesting thought on this whole wedding thing. My cousin who just got married is the first amongst myself, my brother, and my cousins to get married in our family. You could say that she is the first of our generation. So this means that there will probably now be a rash of weddings not seen in my family since my dad and aunts and uncles got married. So I suspect you'll be hearing more from me about weddingness in the future.

And finally, at my mother's insistence, I opened presents, being that technically it was my birthday and all and since the wedding thing was over and done with. I got some nice things, including an outfit with a spangly skirt that I've been eyeing for a while, James Lileks's "Interior Descecrations", and several CDs, including a copy of Respighi's "Pines of Rome".

As you can well imagine, we've all been spending the day lying low after yesterday.

Man, I'd be right pissed if some big event overlapped with my birthday and stole the spotlight from me.

OH, wait...

Hee hee. I'm glad you had a good time on your natal day! Belated well-wishing goes here!
