Once again, I got my rock on at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas tour. WOW. It's definitely become even more of a spectacular since the last time I went.
Some of the highlights:
--TRON LIGHTS. Seriously. They were lights that went around select edges of the stage, and when they were initially turned on, they were Tron blue. Tron lights only seemed an appropriate dubbing.
--Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24 visuals seemed politically charged this year. I can kind of see where you could make the case for such a choice, given the introduction for the song in the liner notes. They had some LED screens that were used throughout the concert, and during that particular song they were displaying things like clips of politicians and flags, war images, and at the very end, a rapidly ticking clock that I suddenly superimposed with the iconic clock from Watchmen, which subsequently FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT.
--Various special effects! Including colored fire, and fireworks inside! That wowed me a bit, that they were doing fireworks inside. Fun stuff!
--The drunk! The drunk that sings is always present, but this year the singer playing him was particularly animated. It was actually kinda fun. His accompaniment had to remind him a couple of times not to drink during the song. XD
--HOVERING PLATFORM. In the past, the musicians have been raised up on basically a motorized scaffolding. Not so this year! This year they were raised on a platform that was supported from the ceiling, complete with colored smoke underneath, which made it look like they were on a GIANT SMOKE-PROPELLED HOVERCRAFT. Not full of eels.
--THE ELECTRIC VIOLINIST. OMG. I loved this woman. She was full of awesome, from her head to her midriff-baring outfit with coattails to her boots. She was playing a pink and black electric violin while she danced and rocked and playfully twirled her bow and kinda sorta made me want to swoon at her awesomeness. She was gorgeous and talented and obviously enjoying herself, which made her downright captivating to watch.
(Edit: Anna Phoebe is her name, and website)
All in all, it was awesome and bright and energetic and a lot of fun. And I even got some knitting in, when the light show was bright enough to knit by. Just how geeky is it that I was knitting at a rock concert? Although I was working on my Zlar scarf, at least. I think she would approve.
