Adventures in Dormitory Cooking
Mar. 21st, 2006 12:47 pmApparently if you put avocado slices on toast, sprinkle motzarella cheese on top, then stick the whole mess into the microwave for a litte under a minute, you end up with something that tastes almost exactly like hard boiled eggs.
How bizarre.
I would like to get more experimental with avocados. I've only ever known them to be in guacamole, but apparently they can be used in other things, like sandwich toppings. I'm still not 100% sure I fully like them or not, but I'd like to try liking them. Maybe they'll grow on me, at which point call the EPA, because there must be a mutagenic spill around here somewhere.
One thing's for certain though. I'm gonna save that seed and see if I can't grow me a new plant. <3 <3 <3 <3

Date: 2006-03-29 07:10 pm (UTC)Fried Avocado
1 avocado
colby jack
1 pearl onion (smaller the better), diced
1 small serrano
cumin
garlic
cilantro
Slice up the serrano and brown it in olive oil. Cut avocado in half; scrape the meat into a bowl (save the skins). Mix avocado meat and other ingredients, including the oil you browned the serrano in. Spoon this mixture back into the avocado skins; make sure it's level with the top of the skin. Press more colby jack onto the top of the mixture.
Fry the two halves upside (i.e. flat side) down in olive oil until the skin is hot to the touch.
