Nov. 1st, 2006 10:47 pmUnfortunately, the turnout for trick-or-treaters was not quite as large as I would like (the bowl I was using to distribute candy with is still half-full), and the majority of them came within the span of a half an hour before it kinda just stopped. Ah well. I guess that's what happens when you live in an older neighborhood. But anyway.
Interesting costumes which the Ru saw Halloween night:
--A pair of dice (the girl was dressed up to look like one of the die, while her trick-or-treating bag was made up to look like the second one)
--A ladybug
--Something which appeared to be a rabbit cowboy
--Several zombie-type creatures
--A chicken, with angel-like wings standing in as chicken wings
--A pink fairy
--A couple of very tiny cheerleaders on two different occasions. They couldn't have been more than two or three, so I'm guessing this was their first Halloweens. One of them seemed like she was getting into it, barely needing prompting from her parents before putting her treat bag on the door ledge and basically asking in two-year-old-ese for candy. The other was much more shy about it, but you could tell when I gave her candy that she was thinking something along the lines of "Hey, I get to dress up and go to people's doors, and they give me candy? Yeah, okay, I could get into this." Aaah, the joys of watching the Halloween spark developing. <3 <3
On the subject of first Halloweens, I'm now curious, what were you peoples' first Halloween costumes (or at least the earliest one you remember)? According to pictures and my parents, I went as a hobo my first Halloween, using some old clothes, including a scarf, some blush, and a plaid robe of some sort, to complete the look. I was apparently too shy to go out and trick-or-treat, but I was more than happy to answer the door for people. ^_^

Date: 2006-11-02 06:10 am (UTC)i was yoda with one of those plastic masks with the eyes cut out...you know, the ones you can bearly see out of. :D i'm not sure how old i was for this...could have been before the witch or when i was 6.
when i was 5 1/2 i was a spider. my mom made up the costume. i was in a black tux with a red cumberbun and extra arms that were strung with fishing line to my real arms so they would move with my real arms. this is my favourite costume ever.
i know i was some sort of bizarre princess with blue, sparkly hair when i was 8. it was more of just a dress-up thing. 7 was my last halloween going out trick-or-treating. 8 was my last halloween ever...we celebrated at a church costume party. i'm still bitter over this. i've never ever had a pillow case full of candy...my parents would never take us very far. ;_;
i don't remember any other costumes than the 4 mentioned above. i know i went to my very close neighbours when i was 2 1/2.
my spider costume rocked, tho. so great!!

Date: 2006-11-02 04:58 pm (UTC)And for some reason, the mention of the nifty spider costume(maybe because of the idea of subsituting one's normal arms for something like spider legs or other animal appendages) reminded me of when I went as a phoenix one year--I got hold of a super-sparkly red sequin dress, a gold and red bird-like mask, and used a red boa for the wings. There was no way drivers would've missed me. Heck, I probably could have been used to keep ships from running onto the rocks. XD
