Avocadocumentary: Weeks 41/42--Distress
Sep. 14th, 2007 11:53 pmIs it something in the air, or something?
Excuse me now, while I cluck like a horrible mother hen over my babies.

It seems like Avobaby is doing okay, for the most part. It's getting ready to put out another set of leaves, and the leaves that are there are getting big and healthy. I also noticed the other day that the air conditioning vent, which is right near Avobaby, blows such that it rustles the leaves on a regular basis. I hope that'll encourage Avobaby to make a stronger stem.
BUT.

ANOTHER LEAF DROP OMGOMGOMG. AVOBABY WHAT IS GOING ON?!? ;_; ;_; It's really starting to freak me out. I'm hoping that it's just what Tai said, and that it's just that Avobaby's losing its baby leaves. Those leaves, admittedly, look rather different from the new ones. They're differently shaped and differently colored, and much darker. So maybe it's just a sign that Avobaby's maturing, like losing baby teeth, or something. Nevertheless, I'm watching Avobaby for signs of distress. Speaking of distress...

Something is wrong with Hal. ;_________; He's still in stasis. I'm trying to be patient, but he seems to be getting worse. Maybe it's due to heavy drinking, as indicated by the wine bottle. Or maybe I cut too low. I'm worried that that might be the case. Or maybe it's just the nature of the oddness of Hal's seed. I dunno.

I just know this isn't right. I'm not quite sure what it means. That, and the fact that Hal's lowest leaf has been starting to turn yellow. I've transplanted Hal into a bigger pot, as I thought maybe it was the result of not having enough space. I dunno if it'll help or not, though. He didn't seem too potbound when I got him out of there. I mean, yeah, he probably could've used a bigger pot, but it wasn't at the point where he was desperate. I also threw in some fertilizer, to see if that might help with the yellowing. I'm uncertain now if Hal's gonna survive to actually show some growth from his buds.
I'm also wondering, if Hal does go, if I should bother trying to start a second seed and repeating the experiment. I'm wondering if perhaps it's just that I had done the cutting at too late a date. The sites say to do the first cut at something like six inches, but Hal did his growing when we were on vacation, so by the time we got back, Hal was much taller than that. Maybe the extra buds died before I did the cutting. I dunno.
But in any case, get better, Hal. ;_____;

Date: 2007-09-15 11:39 pm (UTC)I'm thinking it's the weatehr, as such diverse things as fruit trees to Venus Flytraps are having trouble in my own area, and I live in a swamp! On the bright side, my cactus are growing very well (sagarou are illegal to uproot, but I got some seeds!)
