Oct. 17th, 2007 01:19 pmHwagh, I'm behind on updating things. XD
I haven't gotten around to Avo-updates yet, mainly because Hal continues to depress me. I've poked around, and apparently the leaf browning/curling can be a sign of low humidity. So I've put a tray of rocks and water underneath him, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. Maybe it's a case of too little, too late.
On a more morbid note, I should probably start thinking about what to do post-Hal. Should I find another avocado and try the pruning experiment again, maybe cutting at the proper height and upping the humidity around it to keep it from going wiggy? Should I get a different variety avocado and see how that grows? Should I just fugedaboutit? I dunno.
Also, this weekend, the Ru went to the fair! <3 For the most part, it was very much the same experience as last year, strawberry milkshake of awesomeness included, with the exception of getting an atlantic white cedar seedling instead of a white pine, and being seduced by a plant booth. I ended up getting a plumeria stick and a Thai ginger root. I hope they both grow. The plumeria worries me, largely because I'm starting from scratch, with an unrooted stem. All the sites indicate it should be rooted in soil, which I have a bad track record with. I do much better with water. We'll see.
I also noticed something slightly disturbing. Of course, getting to the oasis that is the giant inflatable strawberry with its milkshakey goodness is a trip through the crowded levels of hell as we work our way through the midway. I noticed, however, that the going became significantly better after we past what must be secretly titled the Heart Attack Shack--they were frying up anything that didn't move--oreos, twinkies, candy bars, Coca-Cola, you name it. And of course, the lines for it were insane, and blocked a large part of the throughway. Hooboy.
Glasses still broke. Now held together not only with super glue, but with tape. Go me.
Still no rain. I'm beginning to think the idea of water falling from the sky is something I dreamt up while in a feverish state.
