Okay, yes, sorry about the delay on this. I can blame it at least partially on flailing about as I attempt to get situated in grad school. But enough excuses from me. Things are afoot!
In particular, this may be the worst mistake of my life, with the fate of the world at stake.
You know you've gotten into something when it's been going so long you have to make separate folders for it, as file names are being repeated now. Anyway.
So, the mistake is letting Gigi grow unchecked. Already she's gotten huge for her age, and is showing some distinct differences from Hal and Avobaby.

For one, she has a different colored stem. Instead of the nice, peaceful green of Avobaby and Hal, Gigi's stem is RED. The color of BLOOD OF THOSE YOU TRAMPLE UNDER YOUR ROOTS ON YOUR JOURNEY TO WORLD CONQUEST!! It must be built-in war paint, or something. It's also interesting to note that Gigi's leaves are slightly different in shape from Hal and Avobaby's. They're rounder, and slightly redder. Again, I think war paint.
Another reason I decided to not cut Gigi is the fact that her axillary nodes seem to have no trouble putting themselves out without the need for a cut. Maybe she actually won't be top-heavy! That'd be a lovely thing, as Avobaby's tipsiness still worries me from time to time. Nevertheless, it'll be interesting to see what Gigi's leaves do.
The thing that I find most interesting, however, is that apparently Gigi is already building an army. Soon after taking pictures, I came back to do my weekly watering, and noticed that Gigi was not alone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a MINION? I dunno who Gigi seduced, but that's obviously SON OF GIGANTOR. IT'S AN HEIR! I will, therefore, call it Sog. We shall see what Sog does over the next couple of weeks. The other plants should begin mounting a resistance, because now that Gigi has a minion, it's only a matter of time before she begins a full-on army.
And now, the other Avokids.

Avobaby continues to do well for itself. Here, you can see it enjoying the extra light emitted from the feeble snow we got from the "Winter Storm of 2008". Oh NC, you kill me.

And Hal continues to recover from his harrowing experience! He does still seem to be moving fairly sluggishly, though. I'm wondering what'll happen once he gets those leaves unfurled. I'm hoping then he'll really start to take off. He needs to. Gigi is going to overtake him *really* fast if he doesn't watch out. It's like being the big sibling for years and years and years, and then suddenly discovering you're the shortest one in the family. Oh Hal, I can so relate to your angst. ;_; But you continue to live, and are actually growing now, so I'm happy happy happy for you. <3

Date: 2008-01-22 04:22 am (UTC)wow, i can't believe gigi's supergrowth. she's HUGE already!!
my poor little avo-half is growing very tall and skinny. he, too, is red, but more of a bright pink-red. i'm proud of him. but he follows the sun a little too closely, tho...he's making right angles almost!! i need pictures.
babycado is getting taller and taller. his seed is finally browning. also, the last internode has got at least 4 inches on any of the other internodes. O_o so wierd. also, most of the leaves have browning on the very tips. any help on how to remedy this? is he in need of a replant? i'm tempted to clip the top as he's rather tall for his pot. oh, also, all of the leaves are rather droopy and bent...unlike avobaby's flat leaves. the first leaves were flat, but then the rest remained quite curved. i'm beginning to wonder if babycado is okay.
