Mar. 18th, 2008 01:50 pmNew definition for a lost weekend: Spending your entire weekend at school for a class, collecting leaves and torturing them with heat to find out how well they're still able to photosynthesize. It was a neat study, and I learned how to use a chlorophyll fluorometer, but I wasn't particularly keen on basically having no weekend in order to do it. Oh well. It's over now.
On a different note, we have bluebirds! Dad put up some bluebird boxes last week, and on Sunday we saw that a bluebird couple had moved into one of them! It's really exciting to see, considering how uncommon they are and how little they come out into the open. Lucky for us we have prime bluebird habitat--edge of woods, with a big huge swath of field, excellent for hunting insects in (Bluebirds, little recommendation: EAT THE JAPANESE BEETLE GRUBS).
It's hilarious watching them interact. You can almost see the female henpecking the male: "NO. I want those twigs over THERE." "*sigh* Yes dear." "And you'd better not go wandering off tonight! I need you to help me weave the new nest! I don't want to see you carousing with those wrens!" "Yes dear. I'm sorry dear." "And get me a pickle!" "Yes, dear."
