Jul. 18th, 2008 11:01 pmWell, I think my breeding theory has been busted. No signs of creatures creating more of themselves. But, I'm not too upset, because that was a pretty damn good episode. I mean, WOW. That was rough, in an awesome sort of way. The question of "What happens to the world when you do one tiny thing differently." is always an interesting one. It's probably also the reason why "Sliding Doors" is one of my favorite romantic comedy-type movies. Anyway, yay tangent. I was seriously loving Donna. I think out of all the companions thus far, she seems to be the most real to me. She reacts to things very naturally, and isn't afraid to show she's scared (with a bit of her trademark snark thrown in). Her panic when she learned of the beetle thing on her back was raw and made me want to hug her. And I think I was feeling some of her relief at the end when she saw the Doctor again. Was it just me, or did he seem doubly adorable at the end? Maybe it's just because he only really appeared at the very beginning and end, so I was kinda in withdrawal.
It was interesting to see Rose again. I'm looking forward to seeing how she works into everything, particularly considering her apparent ability to jump not only between dimensions, but through time. And how the heck did she hook up with UNIT anyway? Hmmm, interesting ponderances. Although, maybe it was just me, but Billie Piper's performance seemed a little lackluster. Rose seems to have lost a bit of her spunk, her original attitude popping up only at rare moments. However, maybe it's just the character herself changing. A lot seems to have happened since the last time Rose cropped up. But it seems to me that she was speaking with cotton in her mouth. Her voice sounded just a little bit garbled. Either way, she'll make the next couple of episodes interesting. And the Doctor's reaction when he realized who it was that had been helping Donna was priceless. So much emotion in two seconds. And I loved that Bad Wolf was worked in again. Gotta love Bad Wolf. <3
And I am SO excited for next week. I want it to be next Friday like RIGHT NOW. Must...learn...to warp time!
Also, a literal sign of the times: I noticed a sign at school touting an upcoming blood drive. The incentive they used to get people to come and donate: Free gas.

Date: 2008-07-20 01:21 am (UTC)You're right, it really shows how Donna has become a completely different person with the Doctor. It almost seems like she wavers between her old self and her new one in this episode, like how she goes running towards the Christmas Star, which I don't think she would have done before she met him.
One of my favorite Donna moments was also in "Planet of the Ood," when her first reaction on seeing an alien for the first time was to be horrified at his face, but her second was to become immediately comforting and sweet. The moment she knew the Ood was a person, she was completely uninhibited in her interactions with it. I think there's this genuine softness to her.
Definitely a refreshing change from the "innocent waif" of the other two. It's so much fun to see an actually mature woman interact with the Doctor, because he responds differently to that than he does to the younger women, and it seems to make her more of a match for him. The banter is totally the best. XD
I wanna watch it all over again now.
