So, some bloke named Matt Smith is gonna be taking over the role of the Doctor. Not quite sure what to think of it. I saw some promo pictures, and I was like, "Hm. He seems to be trying to channel both Nine and Ten at the same time, with the black suit ensemble, and a little bit of Edward Cullen thrown in with the hair." It was awfully dark, actually. Although that may not necessarily be a bad thing. With Steven Moffat at the helm, I'd expect things to get a bit darker (and also a lot awesomer). He seems awfully young, too, maybe a little too young to take on the character of the Doctor. Then again, Peter Davison was pretty darn young at the time too. And if he pulls it off right, it could be really interesting to see.
I also watched some bits of an interview with him. He seemed even younger in motion, and I worry that the character could overwhelm him. But I could see a little bit of Doctoriness in him, with the way he moved his hands (I hope he uses the fluttery motion as the Doctor, because it's hilarious and adorable) and the general geeky air around him. So maybe he'll be able to handle it. There's gonna be an awful lot of people watching him to see what he does with their beloved Doctor.
We shall see!

Date: 2009-01-04 09:15 pm (UTC)One of my friends is being very defensive and saying she likes him a lot. (and she likes this (http://pics.livejournal.com/leetje/pic/000b9007) photo). :)
How is it that you haven't read harry potter book seven yet? I actually have been spending the last few days re-reading the whole harry potter series in order, now that I can. I felt that parts of the seventh book were very strange--or just extremely different from the other books (at times, seeming like an amazingly-well written fanfiction rather than HP proper), but after re-reading I noticed the books definitely change and given that book seven isn't as strange as I felt when I first read it. Also, the second half / last third of the book is just amazing and worth it all in itself. I highly recommend it, but then again I'm a big nerd who goes and listens to wizard rock performances (me, selena, bryson, and susan sall were all at a big wizard rock concert yesterday).
(and also, please don't talk to me about the christmas special. I haven't seen it yet, I'm planning on seeing it with selena and bryson on Friday).

Date: 2009-01-05 06:17 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear the seventh book is alright! Lately I've been getting back into the habit of reading while eating lunch, so I can get a few pages in of something a day and at least *try* to chip away at the pile of books I have at home waiting to be read (a literal pile, too. My bookshelf is at capacity). I wouldn't mind starting in on the book, but I'd need to find a paperback copy first. The hardback version would be a little tough to tote to school and back. Or I suppose I could just leave it here, since here's where I'd be reading it for the most part. Hm!
The wizard rock concert--was that the one at Camelot? I wanted to go to that.
I still need to see the Christmas special too. *weeps* I don't even know how it's going to be aired. I should keep watching the Sci-Fi channel's schedule! I hope they'll air it.

Date: 2009-01-06 01:37 am (UTC)I just finished it earlier today, and it is one of the few things that makes me cry every time I read it. Incredible book. You do need to read it. The paperback, however, will not be released until July.

Yes, it was the concert at Camelot Treasures. If you want to go to wizard rock, Selena's probably not going to be able to make the one at the end of the month, but there's one at the end of February and on April 1st which I don't think she has conflicts for yet (and the one on April 1st is pretty big with some of the big bands). It'd be great to see you there! (Although you may want to read book seven before going to wizard rock or you may be spoiled).

Date: 2009-01-05 01:34 am (UTC)Looking at the link above, wow, and I thought Ten looked young. But he looks like he could be fun times. I'm digging the sweater-with-suit combo going on there. And skinny jeans. Whoa boy.
