Christmas and Knitting Fun!
Dec. 26th, 2006 09:18 pmNow that it's post-Christmas, the leftover goodies are free for the taking! Mmm, choco-nutty bars. <3 <3
Anyway, Christmas in my family has once again proven itself to be a hugemongous, two-day holiday bash of large-like proportions. Food was consumed, alcohol was drunk, paper was ripped, and bubble wrap was popped with large amounts of copious glee. Much fun was had by all.
I got lots of little things for Christmas, including an infusion of music and "Please Save My Earth" manga, a couple of work shirts and a couple of Monty Python shirts, a book: "The $64 Tomato: How One Man Nearly Lost his Sanity, Spent a Fortune, and Endured an Existential Crisis in the Quest for the Perfect Garden", and a couple of Amy Brown figurines for my plants. Eien-chan got me a calendar and a very shiny little gadget which I think could be called a Swiss-army pruner. I'm still not 100% sure what all the little devices in it are for yet. My grandmother got all us granddaughters hoodies which are basically all the same except for the color--she has a knack for figuring out what color is best for us all, and I have to say, I think the concensus is that we all loved loved LOVED them. I adore mine--it's peridot green and warm and fuzzy and I haven't taken it off all day because I love it everso. We also played the Screw Your Neighbor game, in which I ended up getting what had been my contribution--a Lushy package of bath bombs, which happened to also have a 15% off coupon inside. Bonus!
OH. And now that it's after the holidays and now that I've given it to him, I can show off my sekrit knitting project!
A while back, when I was making noise about learning how to knit, Eien-chan said that it would be neat to have a Doctor Who scarf. Well, be careful what you wish for...

Because otherwise I'll feel so inclined to knit it. XD I found me a pattern for the short version of the scarf, got several skeins of yarn, and got to knitting. Several months later, this was the result. Folded up in this picture so you can see the tassels.

And here, we have it opened up and draped over a convenient chair (that would be Claude the Pothos peeking up above there. XD). I have to say, that sucker was THICK--the pattern called for it to be 60 stitches wide. I hope that won't make it too hard to manipulate. It will, however, make it plenty warm, I think.

And, of course, being a Doctor Who scarf, it's also bloody long. Here it is stretched out. That white line to the side there is a foot-long ruler. Needless to say, it's pretty darn lengthy. I'm glad Eien-chan's much taller than me in this instance, because it'll be that much easier for him to wear it--if he were my size, I think he would find it a little cumbersome. ^_^;
Either way, it's finished, and I'm glad he likes it. <3 <3
