The Exterminating Begins!
Nov. 22nd, 2008 06:11 pmI feel very VICTORIOUS now! Or maybe just Davros-like. Either way, I am excited, because I managed to get the first Dalek finished! It was my Friday project starting some time in August, and it is now finally finished. My knitting rate seems to be about one project per semester now. Either way, now I can start on the next one! I'm hoping the next one will move a little faster, now that I kinda know what I'm doing. The longest part is getting through the skirt part, between large rounds and lots of bobbles, which are basically "stalls" in the knitting. Once I get past the skirt, it knits up pretty quickly.
I present to you, Dalek Old School!

Done in soft acrylic, so he's a bit more on the cuddly side, and friendly to those of us who may or may not be allergic to wool. I'm a little worried he's understuffed, but on the other hand, a little bit of poochiness in the bottom will help make sure he stands up straight. No one likes a drunken Dalek. Or maybe they do, since it means it's less likely to exterminate you, and more likely to offer you a Guinness.

Front view! In the images associated with the pattern, the manipulator arm and the eyepiece looked more rounded. I think somehow they were sewn up so they were more spherical than cone-like, like how mine turned out. I actually think I like this a little bit better. It makes them look more plunger and eyepiece-like.

From the back! I'm a little concerned about the join areas for the neck region. Supposedly there's a way to do a jogless join so that the lines are solid. I'm going to look into that.

Dalek Old School subduing a hapless 2 liter Coke bottle, while the sugar bowl looks helplessly on. I was surprised by how huge he turned out. I mean, this is a BIG Dalek. He'd have no trouble taking on Barbie dolls.
Dalek Old school will be going to live with Eien-chan, where he can do eternal battle with Tonberry and exterminate computer bugs. I'm so happy to have my first Dalek finished. I'm not sure which one I'll do next. I know I want to do a Dalek Sek at some point, and a Happy Dalek of Love and Peace and Utter Pinkness. <3
Those of you who are on the Great Dalek List, if you have color/specific Dalek preferences, let me know so I can get the yarn! It's going to be slow-going, but I'm hoping to get Daleks to everyone who has asked for one. <3
